Some of you might have heard of something called “picture of a picture from the past in the present”, which actually is picture of a picture from the past in the present. That said, there are tons of these all over the internets, but Taylor Jones managed to start a project based on this concept.
People send him their pictures and stories, and he curates these in his tumblr, called Dear Photograph. These are pretty heartwarming, and some get to be heartbreaking, but all of them are definitely filled with nostalgia and lots of love. Taylor even got to publish a homonymous book, which I find amazing and inspiring. Check out all of it and by the end of the post you may see more info about the book. I hope you enjoy these, and you should really check Dear Photograph for more pictures of pictures from the past in the present. Enjoy! š
Dear Photograph,
A simple yellow balloon or the first snowflakes of the season always made my girls giggle and look with such wide eyed wonder. I cherish the life lessons they have taught me.
Mama
Dear Photograph,
Remember when you had to come home when the street light came on? Where are the good old days when the neighborhood was full of kids outside playing tag, hide ān seek and wiffle ball? Those were kick the can fun times!
Linda
Dear Photograph,
I never thought back then that I would miss hanging out in the sticks and riding barefoot all day long. I sure took them for granted.
Maggy
Dear Photograph,
When he broke my heart you hugged me tight and said āif it is meant to be it will happenā. Little did I know how much that tiny piece of advice would help me throughout the rest of my life.
Love, Chloe
Dear Photograph,
It was the falling down and the burrowing into, a pile of crunchy leaves, that made you get up and go out and play. I need to go find me some of thatā¦ again.
Rachel
Dear Photograph,
We waited a few years after they were goneā¦but now my grandparentās couch must go tooā¦
Amy
Dear Photograph,
Move in day twenty three years ago was like one big present waiting to be unwrapped. Little did I know that a little sister was on the way and ten years laterā¦ a brother.
Shari
Dear Photograph,
Beware of Bear!
Nicholas
Dear Photograph,
Itās been 50 years since I wore that snowsuit, and so much has changed. Yet in many ways, it feels like so little hasā¦just the way it should be.
Billy

This Christmas was my first without you. You gave me the best 14 years a dog could ever give, and that special gift of loveā¦your puppies. I miss them, and I will always miss your sweet face.
Love, Chantal

My brother and I back in timeā¦when dinner and batman was all we cared about.
Lauren
Dear Photograph,
My grandpa doesnāt recognize me anymore, but he still smiles every time I show him this picture. I hope that deep inside he remembers how much I loved hanging out with him..
Love, Laura
Dear Photograph,
New Years Day time travelled and took me and my big bro all the way back to where I was born in Zaltbommel, Netherlands. All these years have passed and now weāre more than brothers, weāre best of friends.
Jos Van Den Berg
Dear Photograph,
New Yearās resolutions and 30 years gone byā¦what was that little boy inside of me thinking about so long ago? I hope I never quit chasing that little boyās dreams. Itās what matters most.
Scott
Dear Photograph,
I wish the climbing up was as easy as the sliding downā¦
Merryn
Dear Photograph,
I know you are my ancestors sitting there in front of the house I grew up in and where my family still lives today. Even though we have lived in different times and a generation or more apart, I somehow feel closely connected to you both.
Gitte
Dear Photograph,
I still remember every moment I spent with you that summer. You always thought we were just friends, but to me, you always meant so much more. A year and a half later and now you are my valentine. Happy Valentineās Day!
Your Boyfriend,
Louis
Dear Photograph,
Feeling invisible, hiding way up in itās branches, we shared so many little girl secrets. I wish the city hadnāt cut down itās lower branch, now itās imposssible to climb. They will never know how sad we all felt that dayā¦ it was so much more than just a tree.
Love, The Girls
Dear Photograph,
It was 70 years ago when my mother dipped her toes in Lake Cavloc, Switzerland along side her father and sister. Beauty was all around them and so were the echoes of youth. My motherās view has changed now that she lives in a nursing home. Wouldnāt it have been something if the waters they had danced in had washed the fountain of youth over themā¦
Peter
Dear Photograph,
Back in 1970, when I was 7 years old, I went to the Dime store and bought my Dad this huge joke cigar and I was so excited to give it to him. Like a trooper, he smoked the whole thing. It had to have been the worst cigar he ever smoked, but he never let on. I miss my Dad.
Steve
Dear Photograph
When my grandfather came over to visit, he would watch us play in our backyard while we ran around without a care. Iām glad, that in some small way, he got a chance to watch his great-grandson do the same.
Clayton
Dear Photograph,
Why canāt I feel all the color that Halloweāen used to bring me? Itās hard to see the magic through grown up glassesā¦
Paisley
Dear Photograph,
Blowing Rock was our stop off but not the destination. We never got to where we were headed and regretfully Daddy didnāt get to travel that wayā¦ ever again.
Larry
Dear Photograph,
I hope he never forgets these walks.
Tracy

Our wedding was our sweetest day, just like Grandmaās chocolate.
Onno
Dear Photograph,
Nana always cared for us.

Dear Friends,
The journey Iāve been on these past eight months has definitely sent me over the moon with excitement and has been surreal, to say the least. More important, it has been and continues to be a journey filled with gratitude. I want to thank each and every one of you for your beautiful and inspiring submissions. Itās an absolute privilege to view and share your photographs, along with your personal stories, each and every day with everyone from around the world. I can tell you that it was not an easy task to select the final 200-plus pictures for the book!
Iām thrilled to announce that Dear Photograph, the book, is now available for preorders and will be in bookstores early May, throughout North America. For now, check out a sneak peek of the cover! Iād like to send out a heartfelt thank you to Luis Picolo for his submission, as his amazing photograph made the cover of the book! I canāt wait to share more details with you over the next few months, as we get closer to bringing Dear Photograph, the book, to you all!
With gratitude,
Taylor Jones
