Gender bending

Oh Photoshop, what wonders you perform: creative freedom second to none, the bitmap tool of choice for most digital artists.

The best part of 2 weeks salary, for the average American, to purchase; and countless hours to master; Photoshop is the de facto standard for all professional image manipulation.

But there’s a darker side to Photoshop; relied upon heavily by magazines to airbrush women into idealized versions of themselves, it’s hard to find a photoshoot of a female celebrity that hasn’t been lit, reshaped and tanned to “enhance her femininity”.

When worth1000.com took the idea to its natural conclusion and ran a competition to see how feminine Photoshoppers could make male celebrities — the best of which are picked out below — the results were disturbing to say the least.

It turns out The Woman in Black is a scarier film than we thought.

Bond girls aren’t what they used to be.

This celebrity ought to be Leaving Las Vegas immediately.

The Scorpion Queen seems to be enjoying her new look.

Are your Eyes Wide Shut? Good.

I bet she doesn’t look like this in her high-school picture.

Could this be Voldemort’s revenge?

No one forced her to take part.

Giving ladies a bad name.

Pirate or not, she seems alive to us.

Make it so.

Not such a good fella after all.

Can you name each of these celebrities? Which is the most convincing? Share your thoughts in the comments.
