David Schultz is an award-winning designer with leadership experience in the computer, medical and sporting goods industries. He has impacted multiple companies by leading design teams to create dozens of products with huge market success. He is the Senior Lead Industrial & Interaction Designer at Microsoft Surface and is an expert in brand building, and the design of mobile & active lifestyle products.

Devices, Settings, Hardware & Partners

Windows 8 is the most radical transformation of the most widely used product on planet earth, since Windows 95.

David was the hardware design lead within the design team, from guiding the team’s understanding of how to interact with software on slates using thumb swipes, to writing the slate design guidance for hardware partners.

David led a six-person design team that re-imagined the Devices (printers, cameras, webcams etc.) experiences. He also led the team to define the Settings user interface.

David also led the design engagement with partners, running collaborative brainstorm sessions with key partners in the US & Asia.

Porsche bike

Semi-finalist in the Fast Company / Porsche “Next Design Challenge”, a design contest to create a product design that uses at least three design elements or attributes from the Porsche 911 of any era.

My bike design shares the core 911 attributes: light, fast, simple, durable, timeless. The Porsche iconic design details are all integrated, functional components of the design- not styling add-ons. The frame profile reflects the classic 911 glass silhouette, yet still forms a traditional double-diamond bike frame for strength, stiffness & low stand-over height. The belt drive & 8-speed hub deliver the performance expected of a Porsche-branded bike, without the maintenance issues of chains & derailleurs.
